Pollen in 3D

In this new display, learn about pollen and why it is critical to plant and human survival.
See pollen like never before with these unique 3D models that have been printed using microscopic images.

Produced by all flowering plants, pollen is a miniature packet that delivers the male DNA of a plant to the female egg.

It is so tough that it can survive in rocks and soil for millions of years.

The models on display are thousands of times larger than the original pollen grain and make it easier for you to see what pollen looks like to the insects that collect them.

Not only beautiful, they tell an interesting tale about the critical process of pollination.

Pollination Week: Meet the expert!
Got some pollen or pollination questions? Meet our resident expert and research botanist, Dr. Andrew Thornhill for this special Australian Pollination Week activity!

Thursday 18 November: 2pm – 3pm
