Janette Gray Memorial Lecture – Presented by Joan Chittister OSB

Joan Chittister, a Benedictine Sister from Erie, Pennsylvania, is a best-selling author and well-known international lecturer on topics of justice, peace, human rights, women’s issues and contemporary spirituality in the church and society. In her forthright style she moves swiftly to the heart of what matters, pointing out when emperors have no clothes. Her capacity to condense complex concepts in science, sociology, economics, politics or theology to a thimble-sized idea, combined with her powerful use of gesture, make for compelling listening.

Joan argues that the world needs to urgently re-discover the wisdom and gentleness of Benedictine spirituality if it is to successfully address the many challenges facing our present-day world. Her lectures have been described as a tour de force and earned her the unofficial title of the soul of America.
