Claret. It’s a wine style close to Australian hearts – a blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz that conjures both power and comfort.

Yalumba has long been associated with the very best local claret. The Barossa icon has produced a solid collection since the 1880s, including a 1919 relic carefully cellared in Angaston. This Tasting Australia masterclass pays homage to rare, famous clarets made in South Australia; gems that continue to define our state and its winemaking prowess.
Leading the discussion will be Yalumba winemaker Kevin Glastonbury, with his super-claret The Caley 2016 to star at the tasting. It’s the fifth such release from Yalumba, a blend of 71 per cent Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon and 29 per cent Barossa shiraz that captures the best of both regions. The wine was named 2022 Cabernet Shiraz of the Year by James Halliday with a score of 99 points. “This is one of the greatest examples of this great Australian blend of recent decades,” wrote critic Tyson Stelzer. Built to spend many years in the cellar, The Caley – named after the adventurous Fred Caley Smith – is drinking beautifully on release but can also live on for decades.

Join us to explore the dazzling red that is Australian claret.
